We offer many possibilities to our pupils to support their individual interests.
In addition to the educational possibilities there are many study groups at our school.

Languages

The languages we offer in our school are:
English, French, Latinum, Spanish and Chinese
In the fifth year (when pupils come to our school aged 10 or 11) English lessons continue for every pupil. (They have already had English lessons in Primary school). But you also have the possibility to learn French.
These pupils do not have as many English lessons.

The following possibilities exit:

French
French and English

Pupils who only choose English as a first language can choose French, Spanish or Latin as a second language in year six or year nine.
Furthermore, we offer Spanish and Chinese courses in year 11 and if there is any demand for it we also offer new courses for French and Latin.
Pupils can also learn Dutch and Russian in study groups.
At the end of year 11 or year 12 pupils can get a “Latinum” (a kind of diploma which means that you know Latin) if they chose Latin as a second or third language.
But if pupils choose Latin as second, third or even as a new language in the “Oberstufe” (the last years in school when pupils work towards their A-levels) for three years, they get a “little Latium”, because they have not spent as many years learning Latin.

Differenzierte Mittelstufe / Oberstufe

Our school covers years 5-13 for 10 to 19 year- olds. It is divided into 3 parts: years 5-7 called “Unterstufe” (age 10-13), years 8-10 called “Mittelstufe” (age 14-16) and year 11-13 called “Oberstufe”(age 17-19).
In the second part, the “Mittelstufe” pupils can choose a subject of a certain field which corresponds to their interest and ability. The pupils have the choice between a third language, between a mathematical-natural-scientific subject or a social scientific subject.
The third part, the “Oberstufe” is an individual preparation for university. The A-level courses (5 hours per week) are chosen according to interest and ability.
Our school offers additional courses and qualifications and it cooperates with the university.

Support in individual development

The Annette- von- Droste- Hülshoff- Gymansium supports the students´ different talents with many measures and study groups. Our school offers many different opportunities additional to the lessons. A lot of students use different offers like rowing, soccer, volleyball, basketball or languages (English, French, Dutch) or science, art, orchestra and drama.
Since 1952 the school has a successful exchange with Grey Coat Hospital, a school in London.
Furthermore, there are many different exchanges with schools in Australia, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland and even China.
Supporting talented students
For talented students there is the possibility to leave their own class and attend the lessons of older students. Furthermore, they can work on a project for two lessons a week instead of the lessons in their own class.
Supporting low-performance students
There is also help for low-performance students in our school. They get help with their homework by our highly-qualified staff. Furthermore, in year 5 the students are supported in spelling and the main subjects (German, English, math and French). In year 6 they are supported in math, English and other subjects, if they need support.
